Birds of Massai Mara, and today's adventures!

We had a wonderful time on the game drive this evening! We saw the large pride of 19 lions spread out to make their kills of zebras. The sad part is that before they made the kill, it turned pitch dark outside so we didn't get to see it, so we'll have to go to see the remains in the early morning. One of the females was stalking and moved within two feet of our vehicle on the passenger side. Cheryl turned her head to see the lioness eye to eye and face to face, which startled both of them. Cheryl is still weak kneed from it. Here is the big fella getting himself geared up for the hunt just a few feet outside our vehicle!

We also saw another rhino, which is just amazing! There are only 15 in the whole park, which is thousands and thousands of acres. We are receiving it as a gift from the Father!

BTW, the report of the hippo being inside the fence was incorrect today. It was outside the fence and well out of harms way, about 100 yards from the pool, PTL!

Ok, so Martha loved shooting photos of birds so much, that we decided to take up where she left off. Martha, enjoy!

Here are the birds we have photographed so far!

The Black Vulture, setting on her nest in a fig tree. Notice all the figs around her.

The Bateleur, a powerful eagle-like bird that kills baby gazelles, baby impalas, and dik diks.

This is the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the world, and feasts on snakes, grass, dik dik, and other baby animals.

The African Hoopoe, really caught our attention as we were driving. He was sticking his long beak in the dirt, digging for bugs and/or worms. A beautiful creature he is!

And for good measure, I'll give you this handsome critter, the Chameleon! He blends in with his environment quite well!
