Massai Mara Part II

My blogsite only lets me do 12 pictures per post, so here we go to continue with the trip through the Massai Mara Safari!

Every morning we see this scene just beyond our lodge, the hot air balloon going on a silent tour through the park!

The hippo! Fact: the hippo is the most deadly animal in Kenya! He kills more people than the lion or the buffalo. It is because he feels threatened so quickly when on land and defends himself. He is actually very fast!

The crocodile next to the hippo in the same river hole! He was about 15-18 feet long!

The Leopard that was hiding in the grass about 10 feet from us that Martha had such excellent eyes and keenness to spot, now trying to elude us about 15 feet away! Oh the thrill!

Wane and Martha leaving us to go on a tour in Egypt. They had to chase a giraffe off the runway so their puddle jumper could take off. When they left it was not even 20 yards off the runway! We are then left alone here for another week and a half! We are having a fabulous time though, don't fret for us! The young man in red is JJ, our excellent Massai guide!

The second Leopard we saw. He had a Thompson Gazelle in the tree. We have video footage of him climbing the tree to eat him. It is now almost dark so it is difficult to make out the picture of him eating on the gazelle unless you know what it is! Seldom do you see a leopard when here and we saw TWO!

The hyenas are coming in to eat the scraps that fall out of tree that the leopard discards. Ugly critters!

A large male giraffe passes by a pride of 19 lions apprehensively. Seldom do lions attack a giraffe, especially one this large unless they are desperate. Still, it makes for an interesting scenario!

The pool at Kichakani Camp where we spend some time at reading, playing games, or just lolligagging! The water is very cold so not too much time in the pool!

Ahh! The sunset on an African safari! Amazing! We hear lions from our room many times throught he night! One was just a few hundred yards away two nights ago. It is so awesome. Oh the joy, the thrill, the euphoria, and so many other great adjectives! You just need to experience it. Oh, it's time to head to bed now. Lala salama! (Goodnight)
